Principal's Corner

Ms. Melanie Lashinsky

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Richlands Elementary School. My name is Melanie Lashinsky.  This is my seventh year serving the RES students as principal.  During this time, our school community has seen tremendous increases in academic growth, worked together to successfully consolidate with another school, and faced the challenges of providing instruction and support during the global pandemic.  I have the pleasure of working with a staff who prioritizes the academic success of our students, the development of outstanding character in children, and the joyfulness that comes with learning and accomplishment.  Together, with the support of our parents and our community, we will continue to promote the learning and development of our students.

My own academic background consists of graduating from Lebanon High School and attending Emory and Henry College, where I received my B.A. in English and Education. I earned my M.Ed. in English Education from the University of Virginia and my Ed.S. in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Tech. I completed the preliminary component of my dissertation from the doctoral program at Virginia Tech in Leadership and Supervision and hope to resume that endeavor in the future.  I have a passion for education and the transformational effects it has in the lives of children.
